FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is fmBlaze and how does it work?

fmBlaze is a cutting-edge web application engineered to conduct load and stress tests on hosted FileMaker applications; by inputting your application access information, fmBlaze provisions real isolated FileMaker Pro clients to simulate various user activities and test the performance of your application under different load scenarios.

Built on secure and scalable infrastructure on AWS, fmBlaze is the culmination of extensive research and years of experience in the FileMaker ecosystem. By enabling users to replicate real-world usage patterns and trigger complex user flows, fmBlaze equips developers and businesses with the tools to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, optimize their applications, and ensure seamless operation of their FileMaker applications.

One of the key features of fmBlaze is its capability to empower FileMaker developer to leverage their existing scripting knowledge to create testing patterns that mimic end-user behavior patterns. fmBlaze can trigger an actual FileMaker script in your application, allowing for the simulation of multiple user behavior patterns in random sequences through the FileMaker script. This simple but powerful functionality is ideal for users seeking to conduct advanced load-testing scenarios, enhancing the accuracy and depth of their testing processes.

What are some use cases of fmBlaze?
  1. Pre-deployment Evaluation: Validate application performance and user experience before public release or the next deployment.
  2. Capacity Planning: Determine necessary server resources to adapt to expected user growth.
  3. Identifying Bottlenecks: Discover and address performance constraints within the application or infrastructure.
  4. Performance Optimization: Test configurations for optimal application efficiency and resource usage.
  5. Stability Testing: Ensure application stability under typical and peak user loads to prevent downtime or bad user experiences.
  6. Scalability Testing: Verify that the application can accommodate increased demand without degrading performance.
  7. Testing New Architectures and Techniques: Assess the scalability and potential issues of new solutions (logging, integrations…).
  8. Benchmarking: Measure performance improvements or regressions under various conditions.
  9. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the application meets industry-specific performance and load-handling requirements.
  10. Reliability and Risk Management: Enhance application stability and reduce the risk of production environment reliability or performance problems.
Do you offer a free trial?

At the moment, fmBlaze does not offer a free trial period. However, we are actively considering introducing a trial option in the future. If a trial period is something you would find beneficial, please let us know.

Once fmBlaze becomes available to the public, users will have the option to cancel their subscriptions at any time. The service will continue to remain active until the end of the paid period. We have designed our pricing structure to be affordable and accessible for all users. If you have any questions or require additional information about our subscription plans, please feel free to contact us.

Will you help me set up my monitoring infrastructure?

Absolutely! We offer assistance with setting up your monitoring infrastructure through our consulting services, billed at our standard hourly rate. If you require guidance or support in configuring your monitoring setup, feel free to reach out to us to start the process.

Which FileMaker Pro versions are supported?

FileMaker Pro 20.3.2 on Windows. We plan on adding other versions in the future including ETS versions for those in the ETS group.

How do I sign up?

fmBlaze is currently limited to Claris partners only as part of its closed beta period. If you are not a Claris partner but are very interested in joining the closed beta, please contact us using your business email to discuss your use case.

How does a load test work? What information is needed to connect?

Load tests require the same information as the FMP URL. Our intuitive web interface will assist you in entering all the necessary details for a smooth testing experience.

Do you have access to the FileMaker Pro clients?

Each FileMaker Pro client in our infrastructure operates as an isolated background process that isn’t visible to anyone to safeguard your application privacy and data security.

Each server is provisioned exclusively for your fmBlaze account and is never reused for any other account. The servers hosting the agents are fully terminated along with their data volumes once you de-provision them in the fmBlaze console (usually when your load tests are finished).

The servers hosting these clients are strictly controlled and inaccessible except for authorized personnel within our team. Automated monitoring tools are continuously used across all servers to ensure comprehensive safety protocols are in place.

As a best practice, load tests should run on development or staging servers that use anonymized or mock data.

All application secrets within our platform are stored securely in an audited secrets manager. Each secret is encrypted at rest using 128-bit AES-GCM encryption.

Where can I get more information about fmBlaze?

For more information about fmBlaze, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly for further details that may not be currently available on this page. Our team is here to assist you and address any questions or inquiries you may have. We look forward to hearing from you!

How is pricing structured for fmBlaze?

The cost for the time each FileMaker Pro agent/instance is online is billed on top of the fixed monthly fee, functioning similarly to cloud service billing. The average cost per agent per hour is estimated at $0.035/hour. The only fee fmBlaze collects is the monthly fixed fee; every other expense is a direct pass-through of raw AWS costs. This approach ensures you only pay for what you use (with a cost-effective monthly fee), making it easier to scale your usage up or down based on your application’s testing needs and lifecycle stages.
